S15 POWED 1600

This Datsun 1600 is not far from your average 1st owner grandma mobile on the outside. You would imagine it to be a good find parked outside your local bowls club... Pop the hood and be blown away. This innocent datsun may not appear that angry on the outside, but trust me it is! It will accelerate from 0-100 in 5 seconds and grip like no other on the sharp bends. Damien has put in alot of research and time into building this ride, So far we are yet to find another 1600 with the late SR20 motor out of a S15 Nissan Silvia. Every part on this car has been planed and built with care and the best possible options at the time.

Damien tells me the car is currently getting some major body work done, I did ask, what? I was given no answer so keep an eye out for the updated photos coming soon! When We first put this car on the web site Damien wanted to up the boost and upgrade to a always planned R200 LSD, well the LSD is still to be done but the boost is now higher due to a high flow exhaust manifold now giving the car 217 rear wheel horse power. Only a few less than my R32 but the weiging only 1033kg it really dosn't need much more.

In may 05 at Heathcote Damien did a 13.8 quarter mile time running 7 pound boost and a standard open differential. Now on 12 pound boost and hopefully a LSD not far away Damien hopes to reduce this time greatly.


In April 06 Damien took his car to Sandown and entered the Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Club sprint day. He posted consistent times around the 1m:36s mark. This was a good effort on standard wheels and tires. Damien managed to pull together a 1:36 on his first hot lap, yes crazy I know!

In November-06 Damien joind myself in my R32 and Sheel in his turbo Gemini at Winton raceway. Out of the 3 of us Damien came third but managed to take top points with a better average lap time.

Engine:
Nissan SR20DET. Jap spec type R motor, Standard with 187kw (250hp)

Turbo:
Standard Garrett T28 Turbo with custom cross flow tube and fin intercooler measurements – 600mm x 200mm x 80mm.

Fuel and Ignition:

VL Fuel Pump, Goss Primer Pump and 1 lt Surge Tank and 8mm lines

Driveline:
Auto Transmission Tunnel, S14 SII 5 speed manual Heavy Duty Excedy Clutch and Standard Flywheel. Custom Tailshaft. This transfers all the power to a Datsun Z R160 3.45 Open diff, soon to be replaced by a Nissan R180 3.9 LSD Differential.

Brakes:

Front: Toyota 4 spot calipers on 200B Struts. Back: R31 single spot calipers

Exhaust:
Modified Rear Cross Member, adjustable camber and caster and a 4 inch Exhaust hole. The car Currently runs a 2.5’" off the dump pipe followed by a short section of pipe before reaching to the 3" Cat. And then 3" Mandrel Bent system follow by the off set Magaflow exhausted
